Explore on a computer: the list and the map side by side
Player
New
- Explore on a computer: the list and the map side by side. On a laptop or desktop, Explore shows upcoming games next to a map of their venues. Point at a game to see its venue on the map, tap a pin to see the games played there. Search now sits in the header. Learn more
- Rate the assistant’s answers. Every answer of the Playbox assistant in Telegram has 👍 and 👎 under it. In the app chat your rating stays when you open the conversation again. It shows us which answers need fixing. Learn more
- Missed games show in your history. If the organizer marks that you did not come, the game is marked so in your history, and the organizer’s cancellation policy applies: a no-show can cost the same fine as a late cancellation. Learn more
Fixes and small things
- A successful Apple Pay payment no longer shows a payment error.
- Playbox social links moved from Help to the main Settings screen.
- Level icons are easier to read: unfilled bars are faded grey.
Organizer
New
- Mark players who did not come. After the game, open a player in Manage participation and mark “Didn’t show”. Their status changes, and if your cancellation policy has a no-show fine, it is charged. Playbox keeps 7% of every fine, at least $0.50, whatever the payment method; the smallest fine is $1. Learn more
- Private streams. Stream visibility now offers Public, Unlisted and Private, named as in YouTube Studio. A private stream is seen only by the people you share it with on YouTube, so Playbox makes no goal clips or links from it. Learn more
- Stream history. Stream settings keep every stream of the game with its status, and only one stream can be live at a time. Quality options are described in plain words, and 1080p at 30 fps is the default. Learn more
- A screen between games. In overlay settings you choose what your stream shows between games. Pre-game team cards now fit five players per team. Learn more
- Team Clash, set up more clearly. “Team” is its own format, the draft is a separate option in Join Type, and the half-time break has a caption. Schedule generation keeps reserves, and works with draft teams that are still filling up if there are enough of them for the format.
- The first-game lesson for the new venue picker. The lesson in the game form now shows the three ways to find a pitch: the list, search by name and the map.
Fixes and small things
- When you record a goal, you pick Goal or Own goal.
- Tapping a player’s event in the match room opens it for editing.
- Confirming lineups no longer removes draft teams that are still filling up, and the lineups window no longer opens on top of the schedule.
- The lobby refreshes right after you reset the schedule and lineups.
- The overlay no longer shows squads on the between-games screen.
Community
New
- City chats get games at noon the day before. Games are posted to the city Telegram chat at 12:00 the day before, instead of exactly 24 hours ahead.
- Game announcements show more. The Telegram announcement has a status line and the level icon of the game.
React to and edit chat messages
Player
New
- React to and edit chat messages. Long-press a message to open the menu: add a reaction, edit your own message or delete it. An edited message is marked “edited”. @all wakes up the whole chat only when the organizer or someone on the game staff sends it, so there are no more accidental pings to everyone. Learn more
- Photos in full screen. Photos in the chat, on the venue page and in the Media tab open in one viewer: swipe through them, pinch to zoom and save them to your phone. From the viewer you can jump to the message in the chat, or get a route to the venue in the photo.
- “Live now” in Explore. A new block above the feed shows matches being played right now near you. A game that has started leaves the upcoming list, and full games no longer take up the feed: they are folded into a “Show full games (N)” line. Learn more
- Game radar instead of the daily digest. If you have set up game radar, the 12:00 digest no longer comes. You get only ”📡 Radar found a game” messages with the venue, day and time on one line, and the “All games nearby” button in the same message opens the whole feed. If you have no radar yet, the digest offers to set one up: days, time and distance. Learn more
- Free games go through checkout. Joining a free game opens the same checkout at a price of 0: the only method is “Pay host directly” and nothing is charged. You can bring friends and enter a referral code there too. Learn more
- Telegram Stars with a bonus, and your payment method remembered. In the Telegram Mini App you can top up your wallet with Stars and get the same bonus as with a card: 2.5%, 5% or 7.5% on top-ups from $30, $70 and $100. Checkout picks the method you paid with last time, and if it is not available there, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Learn more
- Your games land in Google Calendar by themselves. Connect your calendar once in Settings → Connected Apps → Google Calendar, and the games you play, organize or referee appear there automatically. If a game is moved, its time and place update, and if you leave or the game is cancelled, the event disappears. Learn more
- Ratings recalculated under the new rules. On 12 October we recalculated every game since 6 July: team strength now counts only the people on the field, a win over a short-handed team counts in full, nobody loses points because of a player the organizer did not add, and team totals in the game table add up to zero. If your rating moved by more than a point, the Playbox bot sent you a message. Learn more
Fixes and small things
- The stream row in the lobby shows the YouTube cover and title before, during and after the game.
- YouTube videos now link to the goals in the app instead of listing goal timecodes.
- You get a notification when you are made referee or manager of a game.
- The map draws its tiles again instead of a “403 Access blocked” error.
- There are no switched-off cities any more: you can find and pick any city on the map.
Organizer
New
- Create a game in 3 steps. Venue & time, Gameplay and Checkout: you pick the venue and time right on the page, and the fee chip shows upfront what Playbox will take. In a team game you enter a price per team, and players see their share. When you edit a game, the same steps sit in the progress bar, you can tap any of them, and the bottom button always saves. Learn more
- Repeat after the game. When a game is over, the Repeat button in the control bar creates the same one again: same pitch, time and price. Repeat it once, or put it on autopilot so it is created every week. Learn more
- Quick start in the lobby. The Host section of your game’s lobby has a short list of steps that help it fill up: complete your profile, run a test game, gather 5 players, connect your Telegram community and put the game on autopilot. Only you see it, players do not. Learn more
- Stream to your own YouTube channel. In Settings → Connected Apps → YouTube you connect one or more of your channels, and the Add stream sheet now has an “Add your channel” button. Streams from the app are now public by default. Learn more
- Pick your overlay by picture. In Settings → Organizer tools → Overlay you choose the broadcast style (Classic, Esports, Broadcast or Retro) and the scoreboard, and the live preview shows the result right away. Squad bar shows the team line-ups all the time or only on a goal, card or substitution. Paste the Test link into OBS to see your overlay on a sample match. Learn more
- Move players between teams and remove them with a confirmation. On the lineups tab you can move a player to another team or swap two players, and in the match you can bring on anyone who is not on the field. Removing a player from a game now asks for confirmation and says what happens to the money: an online payment goes back to the player’s wallet. Learn more
- Your own API key. In Settings → Organizer tools → API keys you create a key yourself, no need to write to support. The key is read-only and returns your leagues, games, participants and matches. You can have up to 5 active keys, each valid for 365 days. Learn more
- Ask Claude about your games. Connect Playbox to the Claude assistant and it finds games, signs you up and shows your stats. For organizers it also tells how their games are going: who comes regularly and who has stopped coming. Learn more
- Commission on free games. For free games starting from 7 October, Playbox charges the minimum commission of $0.30 for each player who actually played. It is taken from your wallet after the game is completed, and a cancelled game costs nothing. You see the estimate on the Checkout step before you publish. Learn more
Fixes and small things
- With auto-finish turned off, a game no longer finishes by itself on time.
- The match clock no longer resets after the 60th minute.
- A substitution after the final whistle adds the player to the team’s roster.
- Editing a game from a series no longer shifts the autopilot schedule.
- After a payout request you get a notification: the request is accepted and the money is sent within 3 business days.
- The sponsor logo on the overlay stays inside its tile.
Community
New
- A game card above the Telegram announcement. The announcement in the chat opens with a card: date and weather, time and length, rules and venue, while the text under it keeps the location, price, requirements and sign-up status. After the game the post keeps its full text, the bottom changes to “Game played” or “Game cancelled”, and one “Go to lobby” button remains. Cancelled games are no longer deleted.
Fixes and small things
- The date in the announcement is the first line again, and tapping it adds the game to your calendar.
Run your match from your Apple Watch
Player
New
- Stuck in a waitlist? Playbox points you to a game nearby. When a game you are queued for is full, you get a note about a game with free spots within 10 km that starts within 3 hours of it. It shows only the pitch, the time and the distance, and you keep your place in the queue.
- Your goal on video is one tap away. When results are confirmed, the YouTube button takes a goalscorer straight to their goal instead of the start of the stream. If a goal is wrong or missing, you now get an answer to your correction in notifications, and an accepted fix also updates your rating in later matches.
- See the weather and exactly what you pay. The lobby shows the forecast for kickoff at the venue, and afterwards what the weather was. Checkout and payment history show the price line by line, with each discount. With Fitpass you can pick 20% off or 30% cashback on paid pickup games in Georgia. Learn more
- Joined with cash? Pay online after the game. The Pay button in the bot’s post-game message switches your spot from cash to Apple Pay, Google Pay, card, wallet or Telegram Stars. On iPhone, Apple Pay is its own line at checkout and opens in one tap. Learn more
- Played in Telegram before? Link it when you sign up. The nickname step offers to link your Telegram profile: confirm in the Playbox bot and your games come with you instead of staying on a second account. If you play through Telegram and open Playbox outside the Mini App, you are asked to confirm an email once. Learn more
- Profile photos go through moderation and change once every 180 days. You get a notification when your photo is approved or declined, and a decline always comes with a reason. Declined attempts do not use up the 180 days. Learn more
- Take over the profile your captain made for you. If a team played you before you had an account, the captain can send you a one-time link. Open it, tap “This is me, take the profile”, and your games, goals and rating are yours. The link works once and for 30 days. Learn more
Fixes and small things
- Tapping a notification opens the game, chat or wallet it is about, not the home page.
- Bell entries that had no title (game radar, new level, leagues) now say what they are.
- Game radar no longer offers you a game you have already joined or are queued for.
- The game’s YouTube stream is visible on the Games tab again.
- If you pay for friends who joined with cash, they keep their spots even if the payment fails.
- The chat input sits right on top of the keyboard.
- “Back” in settings and profile editing takes one tap.
- Full-screen sheets stop below the status bar, and the join button no longer covers the navigation bar in the lobby.
Organizer
New
- Run your match from your Apple Watch. With the Playbox iPhone app, the watch keeps the match for you: start it, add goals, cards and substitutions, switch halves, run a penalty shootout and finish, all from your wrist. You still submit results from the phone.
- A long waitlist tells you to open a second game. When the queue for your game reaches the size of a team, and again at two teams, Playbox suggests opening a second game. In Telegram the message lists up to three nearby venues.
- A video no longer confirms the result on its own. Attaching the video unlocks “Submit results”, so you can fix the score from players’ comments before it counts. A game with video is confirmed automatically about two days later. Learn more
- Invite a team into your league. Open Participants, tap “Invite a team” and pick it. The captain chooses the roster and accepts, and you can withdraw the invitation while it waits. Leagues also got a proper desktop layout. Learn more
- Several bank accounts and QR codes, in your order. Payment details have their own screen under Financial settings: add more than one and drag them into order, and players who pay you directly see them in that order. Your wallet shows what is incoming and what is available for payout.
Fixes and small things
- Removing a league or community cover or logo no longer fails with an error.
- Adding a player tells you clearly when the email is taken or the player is already in the game.
- The 2x2 format is available, and the format is suggested from the venue.
- The league schedule reset button works again.
- You can own several teams, and handing a team over is no longer blocked.
- The venue card on the map no longer hides under the map tiles.
Community
New
- The city chat posts every public game. In cities with a Playbox community hub, each public game gets its own post in the city Telegram chat 24 hours before kickoff. Every Monday at 10:00 city time a schedule for the next seven days is posted and pinned. Learn more
- Old announcements stop inviting people to finished games. About 30 minutes after a game ends, its announcement shrinks to a short “Game played” note with a button to the city’s upcoming games. A cancelled game’s post is deleted or marked “Game cancelled”. Learn more
Your iPhone now shows the match score on the lock screen
Player
New
- Your iPhone now shows the match score on the lock screen. While your match is on, a card on the lock screen keeps the clock running and adds goals as they are recorded, so you don’t have to open the app. A penalty shootout gets its own line, each team is marked in its own colours, and the card goes away when the match is over. Learn more
- Games in progress stay in the feed. A game used to vanish from the feed the moment it kicked off, so people who were not signed up never saw it being played. It now stays there with a Live mark while the match runs, and games you can still join are listed first.
- Filter your profile stats by period and by league. Pick the last 30 days, 90 days, 12 months or all time, and all games, pickup only or one league. Your rating always shows its current value, and the rating change covers only the period you picked. Learn more
- New on your profile: show-up rate. It shows how often you actually come to the games you sign up for, counted over your last 20 sign-ups. Coming counts in full. Leaving costs part of a game, and the later you leave, the more it costs: a quarter a day or more before kickoff, half at 6 to 24 hours, the whole game under 6 hours. Leaving within 30 minutes of signing up, or when the waitlist fills your spot, costs nothing. Learn more
- Build a team yourself from the draft pool. When enough players are waiting in a Team Draft game (the format minus two, at least four), the Draft tab offers to build a team. Pick the players, become captain and send the invites in one go, without waiting for the organizer.
Fixes and small things
- A declined card now says why in plain words (wrong CVC, not enough money, bank wants confirmation) and what to do next. Learn more
- Entering the same email and password again takes you back to your unfinished sign-up instead of “Email already taken”.
- The city step at sign-up asks for your location and searches for games around your exact point, not the middle of the city.
- Setting a password from Settings works again.
Organizer
New
- Autopilot for the game you run every week. When the same game (same pitch, weekday and hour) has been played two weeks running with at least 5 players each time, its lobby offers to put it on a schedule. One tap builds the schedule from that game with every setting carried over, including where it is announced. Learn more
- League lineups fill themselves from the season roster. Every player on a team’s season roster is already in each of its upcoming matches, so goals, cards and ratings are recorded for them without the captain adding anyone match by match. Add someone to the roster mid-season and they appear in all remaining matches; a suspended player drops out and comes back when the suspension ends. On match day you only remove whoever did not turn up. Learn more
- Add a photo for a player who has none. In a game you created or manage, you can upload a missing photo for a player yourself, without writing to support. An existing photo cannot be replaced, and yours goes to moderation like any other. Learn more
Fixes and small things
- Adding a player during a match works again: “Roster editing” takes effect straight away, and adding between matches is no longer refused. Learn more
- In one city the game form had Pickup, equipment, delayed publication and the Restrictions section locked. Everything now works for every organizer.
- A league match takes its start time from the kickoff, and a match without a venue is highlighted so you can add one, even afterwards.
- Resetting confirmed teams no longer locks you out of confirming them again.
Community
New
- The bot greets newcomers with a way in. Opening the bot, or passing a group’s entry check when you are new to Playbox, now brings a short welcome with two buttons: find a game nearby or create a test match.
Fixes and small things
- The App link under game announcements opens the download page instead of a missing page.
Unpaid cancellation fees now settle with your next game
Player
- An unpaid cancellation fee no longer locks you out. It used to block that organizer’s games completely until you paid it. Now it is added to the price of your next game with them and goes through as one payment, shown as a separate line at checkout. You are only blocked where there is nothing to collect from: joining with cash, or taking a waitlist place. Learn more
- The fee screen stops offering payment methods that cannot work. A card is hidden when the amount is below what a card payment can process, the wallet appears only when your balance covers it, and each unavailable method says why. When nothing can work, the screen offers to message the organizer instead of leaving you with a dead button. Fees now also have a floor of $0.50, so a fee is never too small to pay off.
- Your game day reminder arrives on the morning of the game. It replaces the old reminder a day ahead, which landed while plans were still soft. It tells you the time, the pitch and the way there, and asks nothing of you.
- More finished games show up in results. A game now counts as played when a match was recorded or when enough players actually joined. Organizers who do not run the match in the app were disappearing from the feed entirely, along with their games. Learn more
- A payment you abandoned no longer blocks the next one. Your own unfinished reservation used to refuse your retry as if someone else had taken the slot.
Organizer
- A team that does not turn up gets a technical defeat. Record it from the match menu: pick the side, pick a reason, and Playbox takes the score from your league settings rather than asking you to type one. It counts like a played match in the standings. Until now there was no outcome for a no-show at all. Learn more
- You start the second stage yourself, with a preview first. See the standings snapshot, the proposed seeding, how many first stage matches would freeze, and reseed by hand before anything is generated. Reset undoes it while no second stage match has started. Previously the bracket appeared as a side effect of closing the last group. Learn more
- The bracket editor is now reachable from the app. Open it from the league page or the tournament lobby and set pairs by tapping a side and picking a team. Empty slots say what they are waiting for in words instead of showing TBD. Parallel brackets used to need a support script. Learn more
- A full league still takes applications. The dead grey button is gone: being full stops approvals, not submissions, and you decide who gets a place if one opens. You are notified when applications are waiting for review. Learn more
- A game you forget to finish is closed as played, not cancelled. If there is any sign the game happened, an open scoreboard, confirmed teams or a lineup, Playbox finishes it and your payments stay with you. Only genuinely empty events are cancelled. The warning now says which of the two is coming and what you can still do. Learn more
- Recurring games remember where to announce themselves. The chats and pages you pick are saved with the setup, so you no longer attach them by hand every week. Editing the setup moves the targets onto the game already created. The chat checkbox that would not stay ticked is fixed too. Learn more
- A venue owner request is saved and reaches us. It now keeps your phone and venue link, updates instead of duplicating if you send it twice, and has a Skip for now option. The owner tools open straight away rather than waiting on review. Learn more
- Venue owners edit the same fields they filled in at creation, including formats, amenities and up to three photos. Only the address stays with support, because the venue page and map search are built on it.
- You now see what Playbox keeps from a cancellation fee. When a player clears it with a separate card payment we keep 7% to cover processing. Paid from their wallet, or absorbed into their next game with you, it reaches you in full. Learn more
- The default cancellation ladder moved closer to kickoff: free above 12 hours, then 50%, 75% and 100% under 12, 6 and 3 hours. Policies you already saved are untouched. Learn more
Community
- A player is announced in your chat once the money is through, not when they open the payment screen. Online checkout holds a slot while the bank confirms, and that hold used to be announced as a join, so chats and organizers were told about players who never actually paid.
Organizers can give back a late cancellation fee
Player
- Filter your wallet history by type. Your history now filters by transaction type, so you can look at top-ups, game payments, refunds, bonuses or fees on their own instead of scrolling through everything. Learn more
- A practice game to learn on. The onboarding tour now creates a training game with demo players on a demo pitch, so you can walk through creating a game, splitting teams and recording a result before you run a real one. Nothing in it counts: no streak, no analytics, no money. It clears itself away about a day after you finish. Learn more
- Annulled results now tell you why. If a match result is annulled, the notification names the reason and how many times it has happened, instead of leaving you to guess.
Organizer
- Give back a late cancellation fee. When a player leaves your game late, a cancellation fee moves from their wallet to yours. You can now return it yourself from your wallet history: the player’s charge and your credit disappear together. Until now this could only be undone by writing to support. Learn more
Community
- A newcomer who stays silent now leaves the group. The entry check used to release a silent newcomer after ten minutes. That let through exactly the scripts it was built to stop, because a script never answers. The bot now removes them after 60 seconds. It is not a ban: a real player who missed the message can come back and try again. Learn more
- Passing the check gives limited rights. Solving the question now grants writing, media and reactions, and nothing beyond that. Answering a sum is not the bar for handing over the right to invite people, pin messages or rename the group.
An entry check that keeps spam bots out of your Telegram group
Community
- Entry check for your Telegram group. Turn it on and the Playbox bot asks every newcomer a short question in a private chat before they can post. Spam accounts that look like real people do not get through, and your group sees nothing: no question, no answer, no result. Learn more
- It works in open groups too. If anyone can walk into your group, the bot lets them in and quietly holds their right to post until they answer. Two wrong answers and they stay out, and if they never answer the hold lifts by itself after 10 minutes, so a real player is never silenced by accident. Learn more
- External communities in one place. Settings now has a screen with every Telegram group and channel you share with the bot: whether it is a group or a channel, your role there, and how many members it has. Admins get its settings from the same card. Learn more
Sharing everywhere, new player photos, and free card customisation
Player
- One share sheet for everything. Match results, lineups, league match previews and your player card now share through the same sheet: swipe through the frames, pick portrait, square or landscape, choose a dark or light backdrop, then download or send. Learn more
- Send cards straight to a Telegram chat. Inside Telegram you can post a card into a chat without saving it first, and tick several frames to send them together as one album. Learn more
- New player photos. Your photo now has its background removed automatically and your figure stands out over the card frame, everywhere player photos appear. Learn more
- Card customisation is free. Backgrounds, patterns, animations, the preset palette and your custom team colour no longer need a subscription. Playbox Pro now covers saved highlights, a custom hex colour, the Pro badge and your nationality flag. Learn more
- Refunds read as refunds. A refund for a game appears in your wallet history as a Refund naming the game, instead of looking like an ordinary top-up. Learn more
- Honest checkout. Payment methods that bounced you out to an external page are gone from in-app checkout, so a payment that actually went through no longer shows you an error. Learn more
- City pages centre the feed. Opening a city page now centres the whole feed on that city.
League
- Edit a season roster from the app. League creators and managers, and a team’s own owner or captain, can add or remove players in a team’s season roster, or declare the whole squad in one tap. Learn more
- League match previews. A fixture can be shared as a single frame with the match facts and player avatars, through the same share sheet.
Organizer
- Bad weather is its own cancellation reason. When you cancel a game you pick a reason, and weather now sits alongside not enough players and venue problems instead of hiding under Other. Learn more
Catching up
These shipped a little earlier and we never announced them properly.
- Playbox on a computer. The app adapts to laptops and desktops: full navigation in the header, wider pages, grids instead of one item per row, and an identity panel that stays put while the content scrolls on profile, team, league, community and venue pages. Learn more
- Dark theme everywhere. A full pass across the app, so dark mode is consistent on every screen. Learn more
- Haptic feedback. Buttons and actions can buzz, with a switch in Settings if you would rather they did not. Learn more
- Connecting a Telegram chat. One entry point, a chat picker that actually lets you pick, and an honest confirmation that the connection worked. Learn more
- AI Support says hello. The support bot now opens with the most popular questions and a link into the Help Center. Learn more
- Confirming results no longer expires. The 7-day window for confirming a game’s results is gone, so a late confirmation still goes through. Learn more
Team ratings, games near you and smarter automations
Player
- Team profiles and ratings. Teams now have enriched profiles with stats, a team leaderboard by PBX Rank, and squad form by format. Learn more
- Games and leagues near you. Explore now finds games and leagues by radius around you, with a worldwide fallback when your area is quiet or you browse as a guest. Learn more
- “Near you” notifications. The daily digest now reaches nearby games by distance from your location, not just your exact city. Learn more
- Monthly player report. A monthly summary of your games now arrives by email.
- Scheduled games in the feed. Games set to publish later stay visible with a clear scheduled state in the feed and lobby.
League
- Leagues in Explore by radius. Explore Leagues now scopes to leagues around you, with a worldwide fallback so there is always something to browse. Learn more
Organizer
- Games go public when they fill. An upcoming game becomes public in the feed once it has real demand (5 players for pick-up, one team for a team draft), so empty games stay private and only games worth joining get seen. Learn more
- Automations that look after themselves. Set up a recurring game once and Playbox keeps creating it on schedule for you. Now you can see at a glance which automations are running and which are off, switch any of them yourself, and if an automation keeps making games nobody joins, the app quietly turns it off, so you are never left spamming empty games. Learn more
- Venue selection by radius. Pick a venue by distance from your chosen point, with your favourite and own venues ranked first. Learn more
Other
- Safer checkout. Duplicate-charge guards make event payment idempotent, so a double tap cannot charge you twice.
