How does the Playbox rating system work?
What is rating?
Rating is a numerical indicator of a playerâs skill level in the Playbox system.
Starting Points
All players start with a rating of 500.
Upon registration, the rating may be adjusted based on a questionnaire about your football experience.
How player rating is calculated
After each match, a player receives an individual rating change, a delta.
The delta depends on:
-
Match result (win, draw, loss).
-
Rating of the opposing team.
-
Ratings and trust levels of all teammates.
-
Time spent on the field.
-
Ratings and trust levels are calculated separately for each game format.
How team rating is calculated
A teamâs level in a match is the average rating of the people actually on the field, however many there were. If there were substitutions, each player counts by the minutes they played. A team short of players is not treated as weaker, and a team with extra players is not treated as stronger.
This is the teamâs level within a single match. Permanent teams also have their own cumulative PBX rating shown on the team page and team leaderboard, see âHow is a teamâs PBX rating calculated?â.
Trust Level (TL)
A coefficient showing how confident the system is in your rating accuracy.
-
Initial TL = 0.
-
More games â higher TL.
-
Higher TL = less volatile rating.
-
Not playing changes nothing while you are away: TL, rating and reliability stay as they were. When you come back after a long break, your first game starts with a slightly lower TL, at most 10 points below the best it has been, and it recovers as you play. A break never lowers your rating or your reliability.
-
TL acts as a multiplier: newcomers get stronger rating jumps.
What affects rating
-
Win over a strong team, more points.
-
Win over a weak team, fewer points.
-
Loss to a strong team, fewer losses.
-
Loss to a weak team, more losses.
-
Draw slightly adjusts the rating.
Calibration
Calibration is how many confirmed results we need before we are sure of your level and can show you on the leaderboard. Your rating counts from your very first game and stays visible the whole time, and so do Trust Level and form. The only thing calibration holds back is your leaderboard place, which shows a âcalibrating N/Mâ progress row until you are done.
Bigger formats need fewer results, because a single 11-a-side match shows you against far more opponents:
-
5x5 and smaller: 20 results.
-
6x6: 15 results.
-
7x7: 13 results.
-
8x8: 11 results.
-
9x9: 9 results.
-
10x10: 7 results.
-
11x11: 5 results.
Results are counted per format, so calibrating at 5x5 does not calibrate you at 8x8. One event can give several results: an evening of three matches counts as three.
If you see âcalibrating 0/11â even though you play a lot, nothing was reset: 11 is the 8x8 threshold, so that row shows your 8x8 progress and you have no confirmed 8x8 results yet. Results in other formats are kept and count toward their own thresholds.
How points are shared within a team
Each team earns a rating delta for the match, and it is split among the players who were in that matchâs lineup at the time it was played:
-
If substitutions were recorded in this match, points are shared by minutes on the pitch.
-
If this match has no substitutions but the organizer recorded real substitutions elsewhere in the event, points go to the players who were on the pitch for this match.
-
If no substitutions were recorded in the whole event, the delta is split equally across the team sheet, bench included, so nobody loses out when swaps werenât logged.
A player added for one match only counts in that match, and a player added later in the event counts from the match they joined. Anyone who scored or assisted for the team in a match always gets a share.
A playerâs share is never more than one seat: 1/5 of the team result in 5x5, 1/8 in 8x8. If fewer players were recorded than the format needs, each recorded player still gets one seat and the share of the empty seat goes to nobody, so the team doesnât pay for a player the organizer didnât add and the opponents get the full result for their win. If more players were recorded than there are seats and no substitutions were logged, the result is split equally among all of them.
