How do I leave a team I joined for a game?

Open your team page in the game and tap Leave the team. Every member of the squad sees this button, and leaving frees your slot straight away, so somebody else can take it. If you registered the team yourself you will not see it: hand the captaincy over to another player first (tap the three dots next to a teammate), otherwise the team would be left without anyone able to manage it. Whoever registered the team uses Delete team instead, which takes the whole squad out of the game. Leaving a team does not affect your permanent teams, which are separate from the squad that plays this particular match.

In a pickup game that your permanent team joined through checkout, leaving the team also means leaving the game: the app asks “Leave the team and the game?” and says who gets the money. The refund goes to whoever paid for your spot, usually the captain. Close to kickoff the organizer’s cancellation fee applies and is charged to that payer. A captain who is alone on the team can leave and the team goes away with him. Once the organizer has generated the match schedule or the game has started, the button is replaced by a note: ask the organizer to reset the schedule first.
