Fewer players signed up than the slots I set. Can we still play?

Yes, play, but start the matches in the match room: a game with no match started and under 66% of its slots filled is cancelled automatically after its planned time, with online payments refunded.

You can lower the player slots when you edit the game (Gameplay, Limits), and any number of players can sign up. If fewer people came than you planned, change the format or play with smaller teams, for example 10 players for 15 slots as two teams of 5. It is up to you: Playbox has no fixed rules for team size and does not check for full teams when you distribute rosters or start a match. Rating is calculated from what is recorded in the game’s match protocol in the app. For a short team you can also turn on “Roster editing” in the ”…” menu of the match panel and, for each match, tap “Add player” in that team and pick a free player from the resting team with “This match only”.

Start the matches in the match room when you play. Playbox cancels a game on its own only if it was left open: no match started, no confirmed teams, and fewer than 66% of the slots (format size times number of teams) taken, and only after the game’s planned time has run out, never at kickoff. Then online payments are refunded. You get a warning up to 30 minutes before.

In a competitive game a match with uneven teams still counts for rating; it is left out only if a team played with the format size minus two or fewer (3 or fewer in 5x5).
